What I Love Wednesday: Home decor

From the time I was young I have always had an interest in interior decor. I loved decorating my bedroom as a kid, coming up with themes and putting my own personal touch in my tiny little space. I would change it up for different seasons, and for a small period of time even had my own Christmas tree and lights and would decorate for each season.

Well, some things never change. I still have a love for interior decor, only now I get to express my creative eye on a much larger scale - my own house.

I could spend countless hours in home decor stores, browsing and shopping Pottery Barn online, and will run into Marshall's and Cost Plus World Market on a whim at any given moment.

I take pride in my home and am so in love with our space. I still get the itch to change things up when I can and I feel like I am always creating new projects for myself, mostly because I love doing them.

Here are a few tips for keeping your space up to date and interchangeable, for those of you who get antsy on changing things up as often as I do...

1. Keep your larger furniture basic. Now, I feel like my house and decor is anything but basic. I love MOD tones but I will also incorporate fun and eccentric pieces just as much, but one thing I have learned is to keep your large pieces like couches, tables, shelves, and rugs neutral colors because then it is so easy to buy new pillows and throws when you get the craving to change up the look of your space. It saves you tons of money and makes decorating fun and exciting all year long!

2. Always incorporate a comfy space. I love chic and classic decor, there is nothing more stunning than a vintage sofa or a high end coffee table, but my one piece of advice is to then make sure there is at least some pieces your guests feel like they can touch. There is nothing more scary than feeling like you're walking into an art exhibit when visiting someone in their home, my favorite thing about my home is when my guests fall asleep on our couches!

3. Have fun with it! I used to be so scared of colors and patterns and it would drive my husband crazy. I always felt like I could live in an all white house, but I am happy to say I have come over to my husband's side a little more over the years. I love adding color with throws, pillows and fun table top decor.

I love a good house piece, but my best advice is to invest wisely. Buy a nice couch, and a great bed, you can save a little on tables, area rugs, and decor since those usually get hit with the most damage... I could honestly never tell the difference between a $20 clearance lamp and a $500 high end brand one.

With love,
Amanda
